WORKSHOP:  Italian Summer Story

with Pam Garrison

In this two day class (and then some), we will create and construct a magical book in which to capture your Italian adventure and artful experiences. We will  shop the flea markets for the elements and ephemera that will be joined with the cover of an old hardback, adding new papers and watercolor paper. Once we havel put the bones of the book together,  including bookbinding, making special features like pockets and windows and personally crafted paper, we'll be ready to move on to painting and collaging and writing, playing extensively with water colors, inks, acrylics, wax, gesso and glazes, special pens, crayons, markers etc. etc. etc. You'll be given prompts and exercises to jump start all the stages of journaling which will make the process easier and add the depth that only you, the artist, can bring to your treasured travel guidebook. We'll then take our books on all the rest of our experiences in Italy. Once home, you'll be able to grab your travel journal and transport yourself back to the artistic adventure any time.

WORKSHOP: SYMBOLIC ICONS
ICON: • “A symbol that illustrates a concept or message without the use of words.”

Using collage & mixed media we will create two dynamic & personal Icons. Each artist
will draw freely from their own Symbolic Alphabet as they work to create new characters
that will be both symbolic and spontaneous. We will cover collage and composition techniques,
suggestive support with new materials & ideas as well as outline creative principals throughout the day.
Each artist will emerge with two frameable, print-sized, mixed media Icons and a fresh perspective.
This workshop is perfect for all types and levels of Mixed Media artists.
